Women Powering Solar Industry Victoria

A quote from Minister for Solar Homes Lily D’Ambrosio MP

“Women make up less than 1% of Victoria’s solar workforce – this is something we are working on changing.

Yesterday I visited Total Solar Solutions in Bayswater with Sonja Terpstra MP to meet owner, Christine Kennedy, along with Darcey and Madeline, two apprentices employed under our $11 million Growing Our Clean Energy Workforce Training and Workforce Development package.

Total Solar Solutions are showing leadership in the industry and taking full advantage of the subsidies available from our government.

We’re investing to ensure that we can meet our demand for skilled workers in renewable energy, while also ensuring that we are boosting the number of women involved in this industry.”

– Lily D’Ambrosio MP – Minister for Solar Homes

We recently shared with Solar Victoria about what it means to be a female electrical apprentice for Darcey and Madi and part of the Total Solar Team!

Apprenticeship for women in solar - Total Solar Solutions

Ever thought about a career in solar? An apprenticeship in solar is more than learning to install solar panels. When you join our Apprenticeships for Women program, you’ll learn skills right across the electrical trade and get to be a part of the clean energy revolution.

We’re committed to attracting more women to take the first steps in a fulfilling and rewarding career in the solar and renewable energy sectors.

Sonja Terpstra MP speaking to the Total Solar Solutions team,

Andrews Labor Government is boosting the number of women working in the solar industry

The Andrew’s Labor Government is boosting the number of women working in solar, making the states rapidly growing renewables sector more diverse, and helping to meet the skilled worker demand.

The first women have graduated from solar apprenticeships as part of the Labor Government’s suite of measures to address gender inequality in the sector – where women currently make up less than 1% of the clean energy work force.

The subsidised apprenticeships are part of the Government’s $11 million Growing Our Clean Energy Workforce Training and Workforce Development package, which is working to meet future industry demand through diversification and maintain Victoria’s reputation as the national
leader in solar safety standards.

The Solar Homes Program has helped more than 205,000 Victorian households install solar panels, solar batteries, and solar hot water since 2018. A further 25,000 Victorians have reduced their carbon footprint through rebates for heating and cooling upgrades, zero emissions
vehicles and solar for business.

At Total Solar Solutions, we have been installing solar panels across Victoria since 2012, both residential and commercial systems. As a Clean Energy Council approved solar retailer since 2016, we are committed to installing only the best quality solar panels, and delivering top notch
service to our customers.
