The solar battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program for eligible Victorian households has reduced slightly as of July 2020, with the maximum value of the rebate now $4,174, down from the earlier amount of $4,838.
Although the amount is now lower, it still allows eligible homeowners to enjoy a good discount off the price of a solar battery, making solar energy more affordable and accessible.
Solar batteries are worth the investment for those already using solar panels, as they save the extra energy produced for later use and help you make the most out of your system. By installing a solar battery, a typical household in Victoria can save up to $640 a year.
How to apply
To be eligible for the rebate, homeowners in Victoria must engage an authorised solar provider and buy products on the approved products list, which include LG Chem, Enphase, and Tesla Powerwall Home Batteries.
Your solar retailer will then claim the rebate on your behalf, and the rebate amount will be deducted from the total cost of your solar PV system and installation.
Eligible postcodes
The battery rebate program is currently offered to designated postcodes across Victoria that have been identified as a high growth suburb and have high solar PV penetration.
It is important to note that this list may change, and more postcodes may be added over time.
Am I eligible?
So who is eligible for this program? Eligibility requirements include but are not limited to:
- Victorians who live in their own home valued at up to $3 million, within the list of designated postcodes, with a household income of less than $180,000
- The property has to already have solar PV panels with a capacity equal to or more than 5kW
- The property has not previously claimed any other Solar Homes program rebates
